Andrei Foundation Participates in Vision Walk

Andrei’s Armada invaded the Foundation Fighting Blindness’ annual Vision Walk on Sunday, June 7th, 2009.

The Vision Walk is a 5k (3.1mi) walk designed to raise awareness and dollars for the Foundation Fighting Blindness. Andrei was an essential part of making this walk become a reality over a decade ago and it has remained an important fundraiser for the FFB while increasing community awareness about degenerative eye diseases such as Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP).

The Foundation Fighting Blindness is a non-profit organization that has a clear goal in mind, to find a cure for retinal degenerative diseases. This may seem like a daunting objective, but with the support of the community and decades of research the FFB has uncovered the building blocks for a cure. Contributions from the public have enabled The Foundation to grant access to the latest cutting-edge technologies such as gene-therapy, retinal cell transplantation, and pharmaceutical therapies to its researchers. The FFB has raised over 450 million dollars since 1971 to support research that is vital to finding a cure for retinal degenerative eye diseases such as RP.

The doors that The FFB has opened for researchers across the globe are praised by top retinal scientists.

“This incredible flowering of knowledge…was nursed into existence by the Foundation Fighting Blindness…If you were to take the thousand most important papers published in the past 15 years in the field of inherited retinal diseases, you would find that over 900 have authors supported by this Foundation.”
